Vaibhav Sooryavanshi showcased his exceptional talent with a bold performance against renowned Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah during an IPL match, earning praise for his fearless approach. Opening for Rajasthan Royals, the 15-year-old confidently faced off against Bumrah, hitting him for a six over the wide long-on boundary in their first encounter on Tuesday.
Bumrah, though smiling, was tested again by Sooryavanshi who executed a pull shot for another boundary over deep backward square leg just three balls later. Sooryavanshi’s aggressive innings of 39 off 14 balls, including a partnership of 80 runs with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored an unbeaten 77, contributed to Rajasthan’s 27-run victory in a rain-affected 11-overs match in Guwahati.
Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya commended Sooryavanshi’s fearless batting style, describing it as fascinating. Sooryavanshi’s display included taking on New Zealand’s Trent Boult, dispatching a yorker for a six over backward square leg before being caught out by Tilak Varma off Shardul Thakur.
Despite his dismissal, Sooryavanshi’s aggressive play was lauded by Jaiswal, who noted the youngster’s talent and hard work. Jaiswal expressed admiration for Sooryavanshi’s game, emphasizing the motivation it provided him to enhance his own skills and shots.
Sooryavanshi, who made headlines in the previous IPL season with a remarkable 35-ball century, continued his impressive form this season with a quick fifty, drawing accolades from former cricketers like Anil Kumble. The young cricketer’s success at the youth international level, including a stellar performance in the U-19 World Cup final against England, has further cemented his reputation as a rising star in Indian cricket.
