A group of 150 final-year university students studying agriculture-related subjects in Bangladesh were awarded the Prayash Syngenta Scholarship 2025 during a certificate presentation event at The Daily Star Centre yesterday. The scholarship program, a collaboration between Syngenta Bangladesh and The Daily Star, aims to assist high-achieving and ambitious students who have a passion for enhancing the agricultural sector in the country.
The ceremony, attended by Mahfuz Anam, the editor and publisher of The Daily Star; Hedayet Ullah, the managing director of Syngenta Bangladesh; Aasha Mehreen Amin, the joint editor of The Daily Star; and Mohammed Shahidul Islam, the corporate affairs and sustainability director of Syngenta Bangladesh, marked the distribution of certificates to the deserving recipients.
During the event, Mahfuz Anam encouraged the students to stay dedicated to agriculture as both a field of study and a profession, emphasizing the vital role of technology and innovation in driving agricultural progress in Bangladesh. Hedayet Ullah emphasized the increasing global demand for food production due to a rapidly expanding population and underscored the importance of future agricultural experts in meeting this challenge.
This year, the program attracted 760 applications from 27 universities nationwide. The selection process involved various stages, including academic assessment and an independent review of applicants’ written submissions focusing on their drive, future contributions, and potential impact. Eventually, 150 students from 13 universities were chosen after thorough evaluation by a panel of educators from diverse institutions to ensure objectivity and equity.
