“5.9 Magnitude Earthquake off Myanmar Coast Rattles Region”

A 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Minbu, Myanmar, tonight. The epicenter was situated at about 521 km southeast of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) Seismic Centre in Agargaon, Dhaka, at coordinates 20.46°N and 93.95°E.

The seismic event occurred at 9:34 pm and lasted briefly, as reported by the BMD Seismic Observatory and Research Centre. There have been no immediate reports of casualties or damage in Bangladesh.

Farzana Sultana, an assistant meteorologist at BMD, mentioned that although the earthquake was moderate, individuals in coastal and southern regions might have experienced mild tremors. She emphasized that such seismic activities are not unusual in the area and that monitoring efforts are ongoing.

Residents were advised by the BMD to stay calm and adhere to standard safety protocols in case of any potential aftershocks.
