“Election Inquiry: Nurul Haque Nur Faces Code of Conduct Probe”

Date:

The Election Inquiry and Judicial Committee has sent a show-cause notice to Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur for allegedly breaching the electoral code of conduct.

Nur, who is running as a candidate supported by the BNP-led coalition in the Patuakhali-3 constituency, received the notice from Civil Judge Sabbir Md Khalid, who leads the Election Inquiry and Judicial Committee for Patuakhali-3.

The notice accuses Nur of spreading false and misleading information about independent candidate Md Hasan Mamun on social media during his campaign on January 27. This alleged action is said to have violated specific rules of the Political Parties and Candidates Code of Conduct 2025.

Additionally, the notice mentions an incident on January 26 where Nur’s supporters reportedly vandalized the election office of Hasan Mamun in Char Borhan’s Pagla Bazar and caused harm to his supporters, which goes against another rule of the code of conduct.

Nur has been called upon to provide a defense as to why legal measures should not be pursued against him and why a report should not be sent to the Election Commission regarding the accusations. He is required to attend a meeting at the Election Inquiry and Judicial Committee in Dashmina on February 3 at 11:30 am to present his case either in person or through a representative and submit a written explanation.
