Police authorities in Arizona announced on Monday their suspicion that the mother of renowned US news anchor Savannah Guthrie has been abducted. The elderly woman, Nancy Guthrie, aged 84, was reported missing on Sunday from her residence in Pima County. Local sheriff Chris Nanos revealed during a press briefing that they are treating the residence as a potential crime scene, emphasizing that Nancy did not leave voluntarily.
Later in the day, Sheriff Nanos expressed to CBS News his belief that Nancy Guthrie was forcibly abducted, stating that she did not walk away willingly. Despite the ongoing investigation, no suspects have been identified thus far, and there is no evidence linking the incident to Savannah Guthrie’s high-profile career as a broadcast journalist.
Notably, Nancy Guthrie, who has mobility challenges and requires medication, is currently without her necessary medical supplies. Sheriff Nanos urged the public to step forward with any information regarding her whereabouts. He emphasized that Nancy is mentally sound and not someone who would randomly disappear, underscoring the urgency of the situation.
While the sheriff refrained from divulging specific details about the evidence recovered from the residence, he confirmed that investigators have established the occurrence of a crime. Surveillance footage from the property is also under scrutiny as part of the ongoing investigation. Additionally, it was mentioned earlier that the involvement of homicide investigators has been integrated into the case.
Savannah Guthrie, aged 54, holds a prominent position as a news anchor in the United States and serves as a co-host on NBC News’ popular morning show “Today.”
