“India Monitors Nipah Virus Cases Amid Regional Surveillance”

Date:

India is closely monitoring cases of Nipah virus, with two individuals reported to be infected in the state of West Bengal since December, according to the health ministry. This update comes as several Southeast Asian countries are increasing their surveillance of air travelers.

Following Thailand’s announcement about enhancing airport screening procedures, Malaysia has also taken similar steps. The Indian health ministry cautioned against the spread of speculative and inaccurate information concerning Nipah virus cases, clarifying that the actual number of infections stands at two.

Health authorities have identified and tracked down 196 individuals who had contact with the infected cases, all of whom have not displayed any symptoms so far. In response to the situation, Thailand has designated specific parking areas for airplanes arriving from regions affected by Nipah outbreaks.
