Legendary Bangladeshi Musician Ayub Bachchu to Receive Ekushey Padak

Date:

Legendary Bangladeshi singer, guitarist, and composer Ayub Bachchu is set to receive the prestigious Ekushey Padak posthumously in recognition of his exceptional contributions to Bangla rock music, almost eight years after his passing. The announcement of the award has evoked pride and contemplation among those who were close to him.

In an interview with The Daily Star, Bachchu’s wife, Ferdous Akhtar Chondona, expressed gratitude for the honor while also revealing a poignant desire. She remarked, “For an artist, being bestowed with this award holds immense significance. It would have been more meaningful if he could have accepted it in person. Every artist aspires to be recognized in their lifetime, which brings unparalleled joy. I extend my thanks to everyone involved in honoring him.”

Chondona also shared a personal anecdote about Bachchu’s deep artistic pride, stating, “I believe Ayub Bachchu would have been happier if his band LRB had received this accolade. Despite the immense popularity of his film songs, he harbored a quiet disappointment for not receiving a National Film Award. Awards serve as a catalyst for an artist’s growth. He longed for that recognition and occasionally spoke about it. We are genuinely thrilled about the Ekushey Padak, as are his admirers.”

Born on August 16, 1962, in Enayet Bazar, Chattogram, Ayub Bachchu passed away on October 18, 2018. Renowned for his versatility, he excelled as a vocalist, lead guitarist, lyricist, and composer, shaping the emotional depth and aspirations of contemporary Bangladeshi band music.

His musical journey commenced with the band Feelings in 1978, followed by a stint with Souls in 1980, where he served as the lead guitarist for nearly a decade. In 1991, he established LRB (Love Runs Blind), which emerged as one of Bangladesh’s most influential rock bands. The band’s debut release in 1992, a double album, marked a significant milestone in Bangladeshi rock history.

Over a career spanning four decades, Bachchu released a total of 16 albums as a solo artist, including notable works like “Moyna” (1988), “Koshto” (1995), “Shomoy” (1998), “Eka” (1999), and “Pother Gaan” (2004). LRB’s discography features acclaimed albums such as “Sukh” (1993), “Ghumonto Shohore” (1995), “Ferari Mon” (1996), and “Sporsho” (2008).

Ayub Bachchu’s timeless songs, including “Cholo Bodle Jai”, “Hashte Dekho Gaite Dekho”, “Bangladesh”, and “Ekhon Onek Raat”, continue to resonate with audiences. Apart from his band endeavors, he also delivered notable film tracks like “Ammajan” and “Sagorika Ami Beche Achi”, solidifying his legacy in Bangladeshi music history.
