Group Captain SM Ragib Samad, the executive director of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA), stated that passengers are allowed to transport any sum of money when flying on domestic routes with no limits set in place. He mentioned that there are no restrictions on the amount of cash permitted for domestic travel, affirming that passengers can carry any sum they wish. This declaration was made in response to an incident involving Thakurgaon district Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Belal Uddin Prodhan, who was apprehended by the police at Saidpur airport with approximately Tk 74 lakh at noon today.
Regarding the transportation of money on domestic flights, the customs department does not have jurisdiction. Their scope of responsibility pertains solely to international flights where relevant duties and taxes are enforced. Despite the substantial sum discovered at Saidpur airport, customs authorities were informed and expressed no objections as it falls outside their purview.
SM Ragib emphasized that there have been no directives prohibiting the carriage of significant amounts of money during domestic air travel.
