MEP Hi-Tech Industrial Park Limited, a part of MEP Group, is planning to invest Tk 200 crore to establish a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility for electrical and electronic products on nearly 10 acres of land within the National Special Economic Zone located in Mirsharai upazila, Chattogram.
A recent land lease agreement was formalized between the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (Beza) and MEP Hi-Tech Industrial Park Limited at Beza’s office in Agargaon, Dhaka. The agreement was confirmed through an official press release.
MEP Group, founded in 1974, is a prominent Bangladeshi conglomerate boasting a customer base of approximately 2,000 corporate clients and a distribution network spanning over 1,000 points nationwide.
The upcoming factory aims to manufacture a range of electrical products such as wires, switches, sockets, fans, LED lights, circuit breakers, and other related items. This initiative seeks to reduce the country’s dependence on imports and enhance local manufacturing capacity.
Construction of the manufacturing facility is slated to commence in April 2026, with a target completion date set for December 2028. Commercial production is expected to kick off in January 2029. Upon full operation, the facility is anticipated to create job opportunities for approximately 2,000 individuals directly and indirectly.
Saleh Ahmed, the executive member responsible for investment development at Beza, highlighted that the Tk 200 crore investment from a local industrial entity will bolster import substitution, promote export diversification, and drive technology-led industrialization.
Jahangir Alam Chaklader, the managing director of MEP Group, emphasized that the project will enhance local electrical goods production and boost the nation’s export potential in the foreseeable future.
The National Special Economic Zone currently hosts around 15 operational industrial units, with an additional 20 units in various stages of construction.
