“NCP Raises Concerns Over Potential BNP Rule Impact”

Date:

The spokesperson for the National Citizen Party (NCP), Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, raised concerns today about the potential consequences if the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) were to assume power. He emphasized that the trials for the 2024 mass uprising’s genocide and the implementation of the July Charter might not occur under a BNP government.

Speaking at a press briefing held at the party’s Banglamotor headquarters in the evening, Bhuyain criticized recent statements from the top leadership of the BNP, suggesting a clear indication of the party’s position.

In reference to a recent interview where the BNP chief mentioned the possibility of Sheikh Hasina’s children entering politics based on public demand, Bhuyain inferred that such remarks implied a lack of accountability for the Awami League’s alleged crimes if the BNP were to take office.

He highlighted the historical error of allowing Hasina to engage in politics by BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman, asserting that this decision had negatively impacted Bangladesh for years, leading even Khaleda Zia to face consequences. Bhuyain expressed disappointment that Khaleda Zia’s son, Tarique, seemed willing to accommodate the Awami League in politics despite past experiences.

The NCP spokesperson further suggested that a scenario where either the BNP or the Awami League assumes power would yield similar outcomes, hinting at a perceived understanding between the two parties.

Regarding the July Charter, Bhuyain accused the BNP of deviating from its commitments despite endorsing the agreement. He noted the absence of a provision for an upper house in parliament in the BNP’s election manifesto, indicating a potential disregard for the July Charter’s stipulations even if the party wins the election.

Expressing concerns over security threats in the upcoming election, Bhuyain alleged that certain political groups were amassing weapons, posing risks for polling day and potentially creating a hazardous environment. He called for joint efforts to eliminate illegal arms and ensure a safe electoral process.

Bhuyain also criticized the perceived bias of the Election Commission, claiming that their treatment of candidates from different parties was unfair. He pointed out that while NCP candidates faced scrutiny and penalties for minor infractions, those from other parties were flouting regulations without consequences, undermining fair competition in the electoral arena.
