The West Indies secured their spot in the Super Eights stage of the T20 World Cup by defeating Nepal with a comfortable nine-wicket victory. In a Group C match at Mumbai’s Wankhede stadium, the West Indies restricted Nepal to 133-8 in 20 overs. Captain Shai Hope led the charge with an unbeaten 61 runs as his team chased down the target of 134, reaching it in just 15.2 overs.
Hope reached his half-century in 38 balls, hitting three sixes and five fours in his innings. He partnered with Shimron Hetmyer, who scored 46 not out off 32 balls with two sixes and four fours, to achieve the target with 28 balls to spare. Matthew Forde’s impressive bowling performance of 1-10 from four overs set the tone for the West Indies, while Jason Holder also contributed with crucial wickets.
Despite Dipendra Singh Airee’s 58 runs, Nepal struggled throughout their innings, eventually reaching a total just past 100. Holder finished with figures of 4-27 from his four overs. With this victory, the West Indies advanced to the next stage of the tournament, while Nepal’s defeat means they are out of contention for further progress in the T20 World Cup.
