“Bangladesh Film Certification Board Revamped with New Members”

Date:

The Bangladesh Film Certification Board has been revamped by the government, with the addition of songwriter and music director Prince Mahmud and filmmaker-producer Rafiqul Anowar Russell to the 15-member committee.

This decision comes after the previous board’s composition, announced on January 14, 2026, sparked controversy. The newly appointed board no longer includes film editor Iqbal Ehsanul Kabir and director Khijir Hayat Khan, who had resigned earlier.

The chair of the board will be the senior secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, with the vice chairman of the Bangladesh Film Certification Board serving as the member secretary.

In addition to Prince Mahmud and Rafiqul Anowar Russell, the board comprises representatives from government ministries, cultural organizations, and the film industry, such as Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed and Tasmiah Afrin Mou.

This restructuring follows a period of political change and the dissolution of the previous censor board. The original Bangladesh Film Certification Board was initially established on September 22, 2024.
