“Bangladesh’s Political Parties Outline Visions for Governance and Welfare”

Date:

Political parties have presented their visions for governance, reform, and citizen welfare in televised addresses to the nation ahead of the upcoming election. They emphasized the importance of justice-based governance, economic fairness, and protecting citizens’ rights while urging voters to participate and back their candidates.

Kazi Sajjad Zahir Chandan, President of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), expressed concerns about deep systemic issues such as inequality, democratic decline, and declining living standards. He promised comprehensive reforms inspired by historical events and vowed to implement universal healthcare, free education, guaranteed employment, food rationing, and worker protections. Chandan urged voters to reject manipulation and see the party’s symbol, the “sickle,” as a representation of reducing inequality and empowering workers.

Maulana Mamunul Haque, Ameer of the Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, called for an Islamic welfare state based on justice and accountability, emphasizing the need for systemic change along with changes in leadership. He pledged job security for youth, fair prices for farmers, women’s safety, worker protections, and governance centered on justice and accountability. Haque urged voters to support the party’s symbol, the “rickshaw,” and vote affirmatively in the referendum for a more humane Bangladesh.

Mojibur Rahman Bhuiyan Manjur, Chairman of the AB Party, viewed the election as an opportunity to establish genuine democracy, highlighting the shortcomings of past elections. He envisioned a new “Bangladesh 2.0” characterized by justice, accountability, and citizens’ rights. The party’s agenda includes constitutional and electoral reforms, national health insurance, youth employment, education enhancements, and a strong stance against corruption and political violence. Manjur encouraged voters to choose the AB Party’s “eagle” symbol to reclaim the country for its people.

Mostafizur Rahman Iran, Chairman of the Bangladesh Labour Party, outlined plans for a justice-oriented welfare state to combat corruption, unemployment, and inflation. He pledged affordable healthcare, housing, youth employment, fair agricultural prices, factory re-openings, and anti-corruption measures to create an exploitation-free Bangladesh. Iran called for peaceful voter participation and support for the party’s symbol, the “pineapple.”

Masud Rana, Coordinator of the Bangladesh Socialist Party (Marxist), criticized long-standing issues of corruption, inequality, and foreign influence that led to past uprisings. He emphasized the need for more than just elections to achieve justice and promised rights for workers and farmers, guaranteed employment, healthcare, education, land reforms, women’s protection, and cultural preservation. Rana encouraged citizens to vote for the party’s symbol, the “scissors,” and engage in community-based movements for a fair and inclusive Bangladesh.

Zubeida Kader Chowdhury, President of the Bangladesh Muslim League, underscored the party’s commitment to justice, anti-corruption governance, Islamic principles, social welfare, education, women’s empowerment, healthcare, agriculture, employment, and infrastructure development. She highlighted the importance of national sovereignty, ethical foreign policies, and marginalized communities’ protection while urging voters to support the party’s “lantern” symbol and vote positively in the referendum for a prosperous and ethical Bangladesh.
