Islami Chhatri Sangstha organized a protest rally at the Raju Sculpture on the Dhaka University campus today, accusing BNP and its student wing, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), of ongoing violence and harassment against women. The demonstrators called for accountability from the BNP and its student wing in response to the allegations.
Protesters voiced their demands through various slogans, including “BNP and Chhatra Dal must answer for the attacks on women” and “BNP, how many more killings and rapes.” Sabiqunnahar Tamanna, the president of the organization’s Dhaka University unit, claimed that BNP and JCD activists were targeting women wearing hijabs and attempting to restrict them to their homes. She highlighted several alleged crimes committed by these groups and criticized the lack of proper investigations into the incidents.
Tamanna stated that the protest aimed to highlight the involvement of BNP and Chhatra Dal activists in women’s killings and gang rapes, stressing the need for harsh punishment for the perpetrators. She questioned the BNP’s commitment to women’s safety, pointing out what she viewed as contradictions in the party’s political positions. Expressing skepticism about the party’s claims of ensuring security and women’s rights while incidents of violence persisted, she called for concrete actions to protect women. Tamanna also deemed the party’s disciplinary measures against certain activists inadequate.
