Cricketer Rinku Singh leaves T20 World Cup due to father’s passing

Date:

India’s cricketer Rinku Singh has departed from the national team during the T20 World Cup in the midst of the competition following the passing of his father, who had been suffering from a long illness, as per official sources.

Returning to the team prior to the Super Eights victory over Zimbabwe on Thursday, the middle-order batsman did not make it to the playing XI in Chennai. India secured a resounding 72-run win over Zimbabwe, advancing to a crucial match against West Indies in Kolkata on Sunday for a chance at the last semi-final spot.

According to Press Trust of India, Khanchand Singh, Rinku’s father, had been battling liver cancer and passed away on Friday morning at a hospital near New Delhi.

Known for his aggressive left-handed batting, the 28-year-old Singh gained prominence as a finisher for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League before earning a spot in the Indian T20 squad. Rising from a modest background, Singh’s father gained attention for his work as a gas cylinder deliverer after Rinku’s debut for India in 2023.

Former cricketers extended their condolences to Rinku and his family, with ex-spinner Harbhajan Singh expressing sympathy during this challenging time.
