AMD and Meta Partner for 6GW AI Infrastructure

Date:

AMD and Meta have recently announced a new long-term collaboration to deploy a maximum of six gigawatts of AMD Instinct GPUs to drive Meta’s AI infrastructure. This partnership expands on an existing strategic alliance and aligns development plans for hardware and software to provide AI platforms specifically designed for Meta’s workloads. The initial shipment for the first gigawatt deployment is set to commence in the latter part of 2026, incorporating a tailored AMD Instinct GPU built on the MI450 framework and 6th Gen AMD EPYC CPUs using ROCm software.

Lisa Su, the CEO of AMD, stated, “By engaging in this multi-year, multi-generational partnership involving Instinct GPUs, EPYC CPUs, and AI systems at rack scale, we are synchronizing our strategies to deliver efficient, high-performance infrastructure optimized for Meta’s tasks.” Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, emphasized that this collaboration represents a significant move for Meta as they broaden their computational capabilities.

Additionally, Meta will serve as a primary client for two upcoming EPYC processors. Under the agreement, AMD has granted Meta a performance-dependent warrant for a potential of 160 million shares of AMD common stock, structured to mature upon achieving specific milestones related to GPU deliveries and linked to stock price thresholds.

This alliance mirrors other recent industry agreements, such as Alphabet’s collaboration with Anthropic for customized chips and AMD’s arrangement with OpenAI last year. Separately, Meta has also secured a deal with Nvidia to procure numerous AI chips.
