The T20 World Cup is approaching its climax, as India and New Zealand are gearing up for the final showdown in Ahmedabad tomorrow. Ahead of the highly anticipated match, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled the nominees for the Player of the Tournament accolade.

Here are the standout performers who have shone on the grand stage:

England’s versatile player has played a pivotal role in his team’s success at the T20 World Cup, contributing significantly in their six out of eight victories. He clinched four Player of the Match awards, notably excelling in crucial Super Eight encounters against Sri Lanka and New Zealand.

Shifting down the batting lineup, he adeptly played the finisher’s role, amassing 226 runs at an impressive strike rate of 176.56, providing crucial acceleration towards the end of innings.

His notable batting display came against Italy, resurrecting England’s innings from 105/5 to 202/7 with an unbeaten 53 off just 22 balls, including three boundaries and four maximums.

An effective off-spinner, he also made timely breakthroughs with the ball. Notably, he dismantled Sri Lanka’s middle-order with figures of 3/22 and crucially contributed with the bat by scoring 21 runs. In another all-round performance against New Zealand, he claimed 2/23 and remained unbeaten on 32 to steer England to a four-wicket triumph.

Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan emerged as a shining light in Pakistan’s campaign, amassing a remarkable 383 runs in seven matches at an average of 76.60 and a strike rate of 160.25, setting a new record for the highest runs scored in a single Men’s T20 World Cup edition.

Farhan scripted history by becoming the first player to score two centuries in a Men’s T20 World Cup edition, achieving the milestone against Sri Lanka and Namibia. While Pakistan fell short of the semifinals due to net run-rate requirements, Farhan’s explosive partnership with Fakhar Zaman provided a fiery start for the team.

Lungi Ngidi proved to be a crucial asset for South Africa’s fast bowling attack, delivering consistent performances throughout the T20 World Cup. Ngidi commenced the tournament with a four-wicket haul against Canada, followed by a notable 3/26 against Afghanistan in a thrilling encounter that required two Super Overs. He also starred with three wickets against West Indies in the Super Eights.

Despite not being among the wickets in the match against India, Ngidi effectively contained the opposition batsmen with his off-cutters, conceding only 15 runs in his quota of four overs.

Aiden Markram played a pivotal role in South Africa’s successful campaign, compiling three half-centuries across eight matches. Markram’s standout performances came in crucial run-chases against New Zealand and West Indies, guiding his team to victory on both occasions.

Markram’s unbeaten 86 against New Zealand enabled South Africa to chase down 176 with ease, while he replicated his heroics with another unbeaten 86 against West Indies to chase down 177 in just 16.1 overs. Despite limited contributions with the ball, Markram’s crucial wicket of Ishan Kishan against India played a pivotal role in South Africa’s comprehensive 76-run victory.

Rachin Ravindra emerged as a valuable asset for New Zealand, showcasing his all-round abilities at the T20 World Cup. Following a washout in the opening Super Eight clash against Pakistan, the left-arm spinner made a significant impact against Sri Lanka with an impactful performance, scoring 32 runs and claiming 4/27 to restrict the hosts to 107/8. In the subsequent match against England, he finished with figures of 3/19 in a losing effort.

Despite the USA’s early exit from the tournament, Shadley van Schalkwyk set a high standard for bowlers at the T20 World Cup. In just four matches, the American paceman scalped an impressive 13 wickets at a commendable economy rate, leading the wicket-taking charts for this edition.

Van Schalkwyk commenced his T20 World Cup campaign with a four-wicket haul against India, showcasing immaculate variations to trouble the opposition batsmen. He replicated his performance against Pakistan with identical figures of 4/25 in a standout display.

Tim Seifert played a crucial role in New Zealand’s journey to the T20 World Cup final, accumulating 274 runs in eight matches with a tally of eight half-centuries. Seifert made a strong start to the tournament with significant contributions against Afghanistan and the UAE, but his pivotal 58 against South Africa in the semi-finals stood out as a match-winning knock, as he partnered effectively with Finn Allen to chase down a target of 170 within 30 overs.
