The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to prolong the deadline for receiving Expressions of Interest (EOI) from potential franchises interested in participating in the upcoming Women’s Bangladesh Premier League (WBPL). This extension came in response to requests from interested parties, as stated by WBPL governing council chairperson Rubaba Dowla.
Originally, the BCB had called for EOIs on February 18 from potential franchises for the three-team WBPL event, set to take place from April 4 to 14. The initial deadline for submission was March 4 but has now been pushed back to March 8.
Reports indicate that only two parties have shown interest in acquiring the franchise rights for the Rajshahi and Chattogram teams. To attract more potential investors, the board decided to extend the deadline.
This move aims to prevent a situation akin to the men’s Bangladesh Premier League earlier this year. In that instance, the BCB had to step in and take control of the franchise rights of Chattogram Royals just a day before the tournament commenced.
The players’ draft for the inaugural WBPL is scheduled for March 14. However, if the franchise matter remains unresolved, there might be a need to reschedule the draft date.
