Litton Das set to bat at No.5 in crucial ODI series

Date:

Bangladesh T20 skipper Litton Das is set to bat at No.5 during the upcoming three-match ODI series against Pakistan, commencing on Wednesday as confirmed by coach Phil Simmons. Despite not featuring in the middle order since the 2019 ICC World Cup, Simmons is optimistic that this strategic change will aid Litton in rediscovering his form in 50-over cricket.

In his recent eight ODI innings, Litton has struggled to make an impact, failing to reach double figures. This performance dip prompted a reassessment by the coaching staff, with Simmons believing that the move will be beneficial for both the player and the team.

Simmons mentioned, “He has been comfortable batting anywhere. I think he’s a lot more relaxed with his game and he sees it as an opportunity to do what the team needs of him.” Litton’s success in the No.5 position, exemplified by his impressive 94 against the West Indies in the 2019 World Cup, further supports the decision to place him there for the upcoming series.

Acknowledging Litton’s proficiency in facing spin bowling and the team’s need for stability in the middle order, Simmons emphasized the importance of this new role for Litton. Despite his previous roles as an opener and captain, Litton is now being groomed for success in the middle order to address the team’s ongoing challenges in that area.

While Litton has excelled in T20s and Tests, his performance in ODIs has been inconsistent. After missing the last two ODI series due to injury, Litton returns with a renewed focus on adapting to his new position. The statistics indicate his success at No.5 compared to other positions, showcasing his potential to thrive in this role.

With Litton’s determination to contribute wherever needed, the Bangladesh team and fans are hopeful that this strategic change will bring stability and success to the middle order as they prepare to face Pakistan in the upcoming series.
