Date:

Gulshan Youth Club clinched the championship title in the Dhaka Second Division Cricket League 2025-26 despite a 79-run loss to Dhaka Mariner Youngs in their final league match at PKSP-2 on Monday. The victory had already been secured by Gulshan in the previous game against North Bengal Cricket Academy, where they won by 94 runs, accumulating a total of 18 points from 11 matches.

Young Pegasus Club-A also amassed 18 points after their six-wicket triumph over Sadharan Bima Corporation in the last league fixture. However, Gulshan claimed the champions’ title due to their previous victory against Pegasus during the league phase, in accordance with the tournament regulations.

Jober Hossain Nirjon of Dhaka Wanderers Club emerged as the leading run-scorer in the tournament, scoring 538 runs from 11 innings with an impressive average of 48.91. Atik Hasan from Friends United Cricketers secured the highest number of wickets, totaling 24 at an economy rate of 4.26.

During the closing ceremony, attended by Wahiduzzaman Tomal, Mehadi Hasan, Jahid Hossain, and BCB match referee Niaz Morshed Nahid, Gulshan Youth Club was awarded the trophy and a prize cheque of Tk four lakh, recognizing their outstanding performance. The competition saw the participation of only 12 out of the 24 clubs, as the remaining teams boycotted the league due to concerns regarding the current board’s legitimacy. Consequently, the relegation league was not held, leading to the automatic relegation of the boycotting clubs.
