Rumee A Hossain, who serves as sponsor director and chairman of the board executive committee at Bank Asia, has been selected as the new chairman of Biman Bangladesh Airlines. The appointment announcement came through a gazette notification released by the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry today.
Furthermore, the board will now include four new members from financial institutions. These directors are: Md Khairuzzaman Mozumder, Finance Division Secretary; Fahmida Akhter, Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry Secretary; Air Vice Marshal Javed Tanveer Khan, Assistant Chief of Air Staff; Maj Gen Md Hasan Uz Zaman, Engineer-in-Chief of the Bangladesh Army; Barrister Nasir Uddin Ahmed Asim, BNP International Affairs Secretary; M Masrur Reaz, Chairman and CEO of Policy Exchange Bangladesh; Sharif Zahir, Chairman of United Commercial Bank; Mohammad Abdur Rahim, Vice Chairman of DBL Group; Md Mamunur Rashid, Additional Managing Director of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants (ICMAB); Barrister Khairul Alam Chowdhury; Professor Abu Naser Ahmed Ishtiaq from Dhaka University’s Marketing Department; and Kaiser Sohel Ahmed, Managing Director and CEO of Biman Bangladesh Airlines (ex-officio).
The chairman position at Biman had been empty for approximately two months following the departure of former interim government adviser Sk Bashir Uddin.
