“Global Corruption Reaches 10-Year High, US Hits Record Low”

Date:

Transparency International (TI), a renowned anti-corruption organization, has issued a warning about the deteriorating corruption levels in democracies across the globe. According to TI’s latest 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index, the United States has reached its lowest-ever score. The average global corruption score has also hit its lowest point in over a decade, as reported by TI based in Berlin.

The current US President, Donald Trump, who resumed his position in the White House last year, has caused significant disruptions in both domestic and international affairs. His administration has been applying pressure on various institutions, including universities and the Federal Reserve. In a notable incident, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell is being scrutinized by the Department of Justice for resisting the president’s demands to lower interest rates.

TI has highlighted its concerns regarding the US government’s actions that appear to target independent voices and undermine judicial independence. The watchdog also pointed out the apparent temporary halt and reduced enforcement of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, suggesting a leniency towards corrupt business practices. Furthermore, TI criticized the Trump administration’s reduction in overseas aid, stating that it has weakened global anti-corruption initiatives.
