Shakib Khan Calls for Film Sector Reforms

Date:

National Film Award-winning actor Shakib Khan has expressed his expectations from the new government, focusing on transparency, accountability, and structural reform in the film sector.

In a recent statement to Prothom Alo, Shakib Khan addressed the recurrent controversy surrounding the National Film Awards, citing concerns about transparency, political influence, and favoritism in the selection process. He emphasized the need for a transparent and accountable judging process, advocating for clear evaluation criteria and stringent policies to prevent external interference.

Regarding government funding for films, Shakib Khan proposed combating allegations of nepotism and bias through the implementation of transparent selection committees, an online scoring system, and the publication of public reports. These measures, he believes, would foster genuine talent within the industry.

Shakib Khan also drew attention to the significant decline in cinema halls nationwide, calling for tangible efforts to construct and refurbish theaters. He suggested offering incentives such as low-interest loans, tax exemptions, and reconstruction funds to revive closed or deteriorating venues.

Additionally, he recommended promoting public-private partnerships to establish modern multiplexes and digital mini theaters in underserved districts, aiming to reduce construction costs and engage local entrepreneurs. Providing tax incentives, land lease facilities, and reduced duties on imported projection and sound equipment could attract investment. Enhancing technological aspects like digital projection, Dolby sound, and online ticketing systems would enhance the overall viewing experience and attract audiences back to cinemas.

Shakib Khan proposed measures such as allocating screening quotas for domestic films, organizing festival-based screenings, and supporting family-friendly content to boost audience participation. He envisioned cinema halls not only as screening venues but also as cultural centers hosting diverse events and festivals.

In conclusion, Shakib Khan emphasized the importance of creating a conducive, professional, and safe working environment for all industry stakeholders, underscoring the need for a hassle-free atmosphere in the film sector.
