Bangladesh has secured the 13th position among the most corrupt countries worldwide in 2025, as reported by Transparency International (TI). This marks a slight improvement from its 14th ranking in 2024. Transparency International Bangladesh unveiled the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2025 at the MIDAS venue in Dhanmondi, Dhaka earlier today, with the presentation led by TIB Executive Director Iftekharuzzaman. The CPI is derived from data collected between November 2022 and September 2025, assessing perceived corruption levels in the public sector on a scale ranging from 0 to 100, where 0 signifies very high corruption and 100 signifies very low corruption. In the latest report, Bangladesh achieved a score of 24 out of 100, indicating a one-point enhancement from the previous year’s score of 23. Despite this incremental progress, the country’s global ranking experienced a decline. Expressing dismay over this scenario, Iftekharuzzaman remarked, “We are witnessing a loss of control over corruption. Our score is deeply concerning.” Transparency International emphasizes that the CPI offers a worldwide overview of corruption, illustrating which nations are advancing, regressing, or sustaining their positions. It also sheds light on significant trends and factors influencing corruption at global, regional, and national levels. The CPI 2025 evaluates and ranks 182 countries and territories globally based on perceived levels of corruption in the public sector.
