“Bangladesh Parliament Speaker Stresses Liberation War Values”

Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed emphasized the pivotal role of the parliament in fostering a prosperous nation by upholding the core values of the Liberation War, such as equality, human dignity, and social justice. He highlighted that the current government, elected by the people, is committed to realizing the aspirations of the citizens and achieving the objectives set forth by the Liberation War. Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed made these remarks while paying tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War at the National Memorial in Savar.

Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal also laid a wreath at the memorial, and both officials observed a moment of silence to honor the fallen heroes before offering prayers for their souls. Following this solemn act, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed and Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal signed the visitor’s book as a mark of respect.

Addressing queries from journalists, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed underlined his commitment to maintaining neutrality in parliamentary proceedings, likening his role to that of an impartial umpire in a cricket match. He reiterated his decision to resign from his party to ensure unbiased conduct in the National Parliament and expressed readiness to provide ample opportunities for the opposition party to voice their perspectives. Reflecting on the historical context, he paid tribute to key figures such as Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, while also praying for the souls of the Liberation War martyrs.
