Seacom Group’s Chairman, Mohammed Amirul Haque, has been chosen as the new president of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) for the term 2025-2027. Alongside, Mohammad Amzad Hossain, the managing director of Rising Group, and Mohammad Moshiul Alam (Swapan), the vice-chairman of the Bangladesh Shipping Agents Association, have been elected as the senior vice-president and vice-president, respectively.
The newly elected 24 directors unanimously elected the three presidium members during their first meeting at the World Trade Centre in Chattogram, as stated in a press release by the Chittagong Chamber. In the recent biennial election, 18 directors from the United Business Forum panel were elected by general voters from the Ordinary Member Group and the Associate Member Group. The remaining six director candidates from the Town Association and Trade Group, all from the United Business Forum panel, including Mohammad Amirul, were elected uncontested.
Mohammed Amirul, who has previously served as a director at both the Chittagong Chamber and the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), is the chairman of Seacom Group of Industries and the managing director of Premier Cement. He also holds positions as the president of the LPG Operators Association of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Cement Manufacturers Association.
The election for the Chittagong Chamber saw participation from two panels this year: the United Business Forum led by Amirul Haque and the Sammilito Byaboshayee Parishad led by SM Nurul Haque. Additionally, 16 independent candidates ran in the Ordinary and Associate groups. Prior to the election day on May 22, the Sammilito Byaboshayee Parishad boycotted the polls, claiming irregularities in the process.
In the voting, 1,843 out of 4,001 voters in the Ordinary Group and 882 out of 2,764 voters in the Associate Group exercised their right to vote.
