Trump’s Interest in Greenland Unchanged, Says Danish PM

Date:

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen expressed her belief on Saturday that U.S. President Donald Trump maintains an interest in acquiring Greenland, despite easing off on his recent suggestions of forcibly taking over the territory. Speaking at a security conference in Munich, Frederiksen confirmed that she thinks Trump’s desire to possess the Arctic island remains unchanged. The issue of Greenland has led to heightened tensions between the U.S. and Europe, with Trump previously retracting his threats of seizing the island, an autonomous region under Danish sovereignty, following discussions with Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte, which he described as a “framework” agreement.
