Actress Lily Collins has been confirmed to play the role of Hollywood icon Audrey Hepburn in an upcoming movie centered around the making of the classic film “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”, released in 1961, which is widely recognized as one of Hepburn’s most iconic performances.
At the age of 36, Collins announced her casting via her Instagram Stories on February 23, expressing her excitement for the project that has been in development for almost a decade. She shared, “After nearly 10 years of work and a lifetime of admiration for Audrey, I am thrilled to finally reveal this project,” expressing her feelings of honor and enthusiasm.
The screenplay for the film will be crafted by Alena Smith, a prominent screenwriter and producer known for her work on Apple TV’s Dickinson. The movie is based on the non-fiction book by Sam Wasson titled Fifth Avenue, 5 A.M.: Audrey Hepburn, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”, and the “Dawn of the Modern Woman”. The book delves into the making and societal impact of the film, providing valuable insights into key personalities such as author Truman Capote, renowned costume designer Edith Head, and director Blake Edwards.
“Breakfast at Tiffany’s” featured Hepburn alongside George Peppard and narrated the story of Holly Golightly, a young woman navigating love and ambition in the backdrop of New York City. The film secured two Academy Awards in 1962, with Hepburn earning a nomination for Best Actress. Prior to this, she had won an Oscar for her role in Roman Holiday in 1954.
After the casting announcement, Collins shared various throwback photos on her social media, paying homage to Hepburn’s iconic style through previous birthday tributes and fashion-inspired ensembles.
