“New Mexico Launches Probe into Epstein’s Zorro Ranch”

Date:

New Mexico legislators have approved a bill to initiate a comprehensive investigation into the events at Zorro Ranch, where the late American sex offender Jeffrey Epstein allegedly trafficked and sexually abused girls and women. The investigation, conducted by a bipartisan committee, will gather testimonies from survivors of sexual abuse at the ranch, located approximately 30 miles south of Santa Fe, the state capital. The aim is to identify individuals who were aware of or participated in the alleged abuse at the 7,600-acre property.

Epstein, who faced federal sex trafficking charges, died by suicide in a New York jail in 2019. The truth commission, consisting of four lawmakers, intends to uncover the involvement of ranch guests and state officials in the reported sexual abuse within the ranch’s hacienda-style mansion and guest houses.

This Democratic-led initiative adds to the pressure to uncover Epstein’s criminal activities, posing potential risks to politicians and other prominent figures associated with Epstein in New Mexico. The investigation, which has a budget of $2.5 million and subpoena powers, seeks to address gaps in state law that may have facilitated Epstein’s operations in New Mexico. The committee will commence its work soon, with interim findings expected in July and a final report by the end of the year.

New Mexico State Representative Andrea Romero emphasized the importance of accountability in the state regarding Epstein’s actions. Testimonies provided to the committee could potentially lead to future legal actions against individuals involved in the abuse.

Victim advocates praised the investigation, highlighting the significance of shedding light on the overlooked incidents at Zorro Ranch. The initiative aims to gather information that was not covered in previous federal investigations focused on other locations linked to Epstein.

Epstein’s presence at Zorro Ranch for decades has led to several civil suits alleging sexual assaults against girls. Despite these accusations, Epstein was never formally charged for the reported offenses. The lack of federal law enforcement scrutiny at the ranch has raised concerns about the accountability of those involved in the alleged abuse.

The investigation has also prompted New Mexico Attorney General Raul Torrez to assign a special agent to investigate allegations that may arise during the truth commission’s proceedings. Additionally, efforts are being made to extend the statute of limitations for childhood sexual assault in New Mexico to enable legal actions by survivors of Epstein’s alleged abuse.

The ranch’s history includes connections with notable figures, such as former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, who has denied allegations of misconduct at the ranch. Epstein’s activities at Zorro Ranch have come under increased scrutiny, with testimonies and evidence shedding new light on the events that transpired there.

The investigation signifies a significant step in uncovering the truth about Epstein’s operations in New Mexico and holding accountable those involved in the reported abuse.
