Litton Das Sets Sights on Bangladesh’s T20 Revival

Date:

Bangladesh’s T20 captain, Litton Das, adopted a composed approach ahead of the team’s comeback to T20 internationals, emphasizing the need to play freely without the weight of past disappointments, particularly the absence from the previous ICC T20 World Cup.

In a media interaction prior to the opening match on Monday, Litton highlighted the primary objective of regaining momentum and confidence in preparation for the upcoming series against New Zealand in Chattogram, despite the ultimate aim being the 2028 global event.

The Bangladesh team enters the series with a mixed recent performance record. While they clinched decisive series victories over Afghanistan (3-0 in the UAE) and Ireland (2-1 at home), they faced a setback with a 3-0 defeat against the West Indies.

Addressing persistent concerns regarding the batting lineup, Litton refrained from singling out specific players or setting immediate performance expectations.

“We are returning to T20 cricket after a significant break. Initially, we want to alleviate any added pressure on the players,” stated Litton. “Let them find their rhythm. With time, everyone will naturally grasp their roles as they adapt to the team setup.”

The captain viewed the packed schedule ahead as an opportunity rather than a hurdle. With forthcoming series against Australia and India later in the year, Bangladesh is scheduled to play nine T20Is against formidable opponents in quick succession.

“The positive aspect is that the nine T20 matches lined up this year are all against strong teams, and the series occur in quick succession,” emphasized Litton. “Once we kick off, subsequent series should become relatively easier for us.”

Looking towards the future, Litton stressed that groundwork for the 2028 T20 World Cup has already commenced, building upon the foundation laid before the 2026 edition in India, which Bangladesh did not participate in.

“Our primary target is the 2028 World Cup, which won’t be hosted in Asia. Therefore, our planning will reflect this,” he mentioned. “Given our strong team cohesion and solid preparation for the previous World Cup, I aim to maintain this unity and progress from there.”

When asked about moving on from the disappointment of missing the global stage, the captain indicated a shift in mindset within the team.

“I believe we have moved forward from that setback,” Litton affirmed. “Following that period, we participated in a tournament where the players aimed to deliver quality cricket. In international cricket, every match holds immense significance for each player. I trust they will approach the game with the necessary winning mentality required to represent Bangladesh.”
