“Rain-Delay Drama: Federation Cup Kick-Off Postponed”

Date:

Inclement weather conditions led to a delayed kick-off for the Federation Cup game between Rahmatganj MFS and Youngmen’s Fakirerpool Club as substantial sections of the Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium pitch in Cumilla were left waterlogged.

Initially set for a 2:45 pm commencement, the match eventually got underway at 3:50 pm after the ground crew improvised to drain off some of the excess water. Images and videos capturing the waterlogged field and the drainage efforts quickly circulated on various social media platforms.

Weather-related disruptions are not uncommon in the tournament. The last season’s Federation Cup final between Bashundhara Kings and Abahani also faced interference from a storm. Play had to be paused during the second half, and despite resuming once conditions cleared, the match couldn’t finish extra time due to poor visibility. The concluding part of the game was rescheduled a week later following a decision by the league committee.

A significant convective cloud formation in northern Bangladesh has triggered extensive rainfall across the nation in the past 36 hours, with authorities cautioning about heavy showers, strong winds, and a possible flood risk in northeastern areas.

On the contrary, the other Federation Cup fixture of the day, featuring Abahani against PWD at the Bashundhara Kings Arena, commenced on schedule, benefiting from an efficient drainage system.
