Epstein Estate Agrees to $35M Settlement in Sex Trafficking Lawsuit

Date:

Jeffrey Epstein’s estate has agreed to pay up to $35 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging that two of Epstein’s advisors facilitated his sex trafficking activities involving young women and teenage girls. The agreement was disclosed in a court filing on Thursday by the law firm Boies Schiller Flexner, which represents Epstein’s victims.

The settlement, subject to court approval, would resolve a 2024 lawsuit filed against Epstein’s former personal lawyer, Darren Indyke, and former accountant, Richard Kahn, both serving as co-executors of Epstein’s estate. Previously, the estate had established a restitution fund that paid out $121 million to victims, along with an additional $49 million in settlements.

According to Daniel H. Weiner, the lawyer representing Indyke and Kahn, the settlement does not imply any admission of wrongdoing on their part. Weiner stated that the co-executors were willing to contest the claims in court but opted to mediate and settle the lawsuit to bring closure to potential claims against the estate.

The settlement aims to provide a confidential means of financial compensation for Epstein’s victims who have not yet resolved their claims against the estate. Epstein passed away in a New York jail in August 2019, with his death officially ruled as a suicide.

In the lawsuit, attorneys from Boies Schiller Flexner alleged that Indyke and Kahn assisted Epstein in establishing a complex network of corporations and bank accounts to conceal his illicit activities and compensate victims and recruiters, while benefiting financially themselves. The law firm had previously secured settlements totaling $365 million from JPMorgan Chase and Deutsche Bank for allegedly overlooking warning signs related to Epstein’s activities when he was their client.
