Mosaddek Hossain’s Record-Breaking Century in Vain

Date:

Mosaddek Hossain’s impressive unbeaten knock of 101 runs from 50 balls was not enough to secure a win for defending champions Abahani in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League. Abahani suffered a two-wicket loss to City Club in a thrilling encounter at the Cricketers Academy.

Mosaddek’s blistering century, achieved off 49 deliveries, equaled the record for the fastest century by a Bangladeshi player in List A cricket, previously set by Habibur Rahman Sohan. His innings included six boundaries and 10 maximums, steering Abahani to a total of 209 for five in a rain-shortened 27-over match after being asked to bat first. Opener Jishan Alam also contributed with a solid 54 off 44 balls.

City Club, in their chase, saw Mehedi Maruf scoring 71 off 56 deliveries, while Tahjibul Islam remained unbeaten on 40. Mohammad Enamul’s quickfire 22 off just seven balls and Abdul Gaffar Saqlain’s 25 off 11 propelled City Club to 210 for eight in 25.4 overs, securing their first victory of the tournament.

In other matches, Mohammedan Sporting Club, Gazi Group Cricketers, Legends of Rupganj, and Prime Bank Cricket Club continued their winning streaks in the second round.

Mohammedan clinched a five-wicket win over Brothers Union with an all-round performance from Taibur Rahman, who scored 74 runs and picked up two wickets. Gazi Group dominated Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club with Munim Shahriar’s explosive 92 off 58 balls leading to a commanding 182-run victory.

At Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan-3, Samiun Bashar’s unbeaten 116 off 70 deliveries, which included six fours and 10 sixes, guided Legends of Rupganj to an 83-run win over Bashundhara Strikers in a high-scoring contest.

ULAB Cricket Ground witnessed Shahadat Hossain Dipu’s crucial 75 off 66 balls propelling Prime Bank to a 32-run win over Gulshan Cricket Club in another rain-affected match.

In the day’s final fixture, Agrani Bank Cricket Club secured a 31-run victory over Dhaka Leopards at the Pubergaon Krira Shikkha Protistan, getting their first points on the board after a delayed start due to a traffic jam.
