“Bangladesh’s Taskin & Miraz lead stunning comeback in Test match”

Date:

Pakistan’s Imam-ul-Haq reflected on the unpredictable nature of Test cricket, stating that the format always offers a chance for teams to stage a comeback. Following a strong performance by Pakistan on Day 2 of the first Test against Bangladesh, Mehidy Hasan Miraz shared a similar sentiment after Day 3. Miraz’s exceptional bowling, in collaboration with pacer Taskin Ahmed, allowed Bangladesh to regain control after Pakistan had initially dominated the match.

Initially, Pakistan seemed to be in a commanding position, reaching 179 for one in response to Bangladesh’s first-innings total of 413. However, by the end of Day 3, Bangladesh had managed to dismiss Pakistan for 386 and were at seven without loss in their second innings, holding a 34-run lead.

Although Miraz took most of the wickets, it was Taskin’s impactful spell, particularly in the morning session, that shifted the momentum in Bangladesh’s favor. Despite Pakistan’s solid start with Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal, Taskin’s precise bowling proved crucial in breaking through their partnership.

Taskin, who had expressed a preference for bowling at higher speeds, adjusted his approach on the day, focusing more on control rather than sheer pace. His deliveries consistently hit the 127-130 kph range, relying on disciplined lengths to extract bounce and movement from the pitch.

Taskin’s strategy paid off as he managed to dismiss key Pakistani batsmen, including Azan who had been in good form on his debut. Miraz also capitalized on the pressure created by Taskin, ultimately picking up five wickets for 102 runs on a pitch that offered minimal assistance to spinners.

Reflecting on their partnership, Miraz emphasized the importance of Taskin’s tight bowling, which forced the Pakistani batsmen to take risks and ultimately led to their downfall. Taskin’s controlled spells and Miraz’s effective bowling performance were instrumental in Bangladesh’s strong comeback on Day 3 of the Test match.
