Jamaat-e-Islami leader Shafiqur Rahman has affirmed his party’s dedication to supporting the public as a responsible opposition in parliament. He pledged to actively protect public and national interests by playing a constructive role.
During a gathering with the party’s elected MPs at Al-Falah auditorium in Moghbazar, Rahman stressed the importance of fostering a positive parliamentary environment where both the government and opposition fulfill their duties effectively.
Highlighting the deterioration of key institutions and the dysfunctionality of the judiciary and other state bodies leading to disorder, Rahman emphasized the government’s crucial role in addressing these issues.
He expressed optimism that by taking sincere initiatives, the government could revitalize the ineffective state organs. While offering cooperation to the government on national matters, Rahman asserted that his party would vigilantly monitor any actions jeopardizing public interests.
Rahman urged for enhancements in law enforcement, the restoration of social order, and the safeguarding of citizens’ rights. He paid tribute to the individuals impacted by the July unrest, emphasizing the importance of honoring their sacrifices in parliamentary proceedings.
Moreover, Rahman cautioned against overlooking the circumstances that led to the unrest to prevent a recurrence. In a social media post following the meeting, he conveyed hope for a new phase in parliamentary politics post the July events, noting the nation’s anticipation for change.
Commending the public for their electoral participation, Rahman articulated the commencement of efforts to reclaim the people’s rights that had been compromised.
