The Election Commission has given the green light to 32 out of 33 nomination papers for the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) board of directors’ election. The approved list of eligible candidates was released on Saturday. The single nomination that was rejected belonged to Jashim Uddin Khan Khoshru from the Gopalganj District Sports Association.
Khoshru has the option to challenge the decision on Sunday during the objection and hearing session. If his nomination remains invalid, Sayed Bin Zaman and S M Abdullah Al Fuad from Dhaka Division will secure their positions uncontested.
Furthermore, four additional councilors, including Mir Shakrul Alam Simanto from Rajshahi Division, Mirza Faisal Amin from Rangpur Division, Abdul Qaiyum Chowdhury from Sylhet Division (all Category-1), and Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir from Category-3, will also be elected unopposed following the acceptance of their nomination papers.
In divisions like Chattogram, Khulna, and Barishal, where the number of candidates exceeds available directorial slots, elections will be conducted to elect four directors from these regions.
Moreover, the EC unveiled the names of 18 club councilors vying for director positions from Category-2, with 12 directors set to be elected from this pool. All 18 candidates have been cleared to participate after their nominations were validated.
The list of candidates includes Fahim Sinha, Masuduzzaman, Mohammad Lutfor Rahman, Asif Rabbani, Foiyazur Rahman, Yasir Mohammed Foysal Ashik, Tamim Iqbal, Mohammad Amzad Hossain, Mirza Yasir Abbas, Israfil Khosru, Mohammad Rafiqul Islam Babu, Professor Dr Sarkar Mahbub Ahmed Shamim, Shanian Taneem, Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed, Syed Borhanul Hossain, Shafiq Ahmed Salam, Major Imroze Ahmed (Retd), and Mohammad Mahmud-ur-Rahman.
Candidates have until May 25 to withdraw their candidature, with the final list of contestants scheduled for publication on the same day.
