A woman passed away following a suspected poisoning incident by her domestic helper during a theft in Uttara Sector 7, Dhaka. The victim, Ayesha Akhter, aged 62 and a local resident, was confirmed by Uttara West Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Kazi Mohammad Rafiq Ahmed.
The victim’s husband, Anwar Hossain, who also fell ill due to poisoning, is currently undergoing treatment at Lubana Hospital located in Uttara Sector 13.
The tragic event unfolded at around 7:45 pm at House 32 on Road 18 in Uttara Sector 7. Upon receiving a distress call via 999 reporting an elderly couple found unconscious, a patrol team promptly responded to the scene. The team discovered the victims being rushed to a nearby hospital in an ambulance.
Subsequently, the couple was brought to Lubana Hospital, where medical professionals pronounced Ayesha deceased. According to OC Kazi Rafiq, the couple resided in an apartment with their son and daughter-in-law. The family had recently employed a domestic helper named Marufa without possessing her complete contact details.
Allegedly, the domestic help administered a sedative or poison through food, rendering the couple unconscious before absconding with valuables from the residence. The son and daughter-in-law had been absent for the past two days, leaving the elderly parents unattended.
The deceased’s body is currently at the hospital morgue, with ongoing inquest procedures. OC Kazi Rafiq mentioned that legal measures are in progress in response to the incident.
