Rumeen Farhana criticized the government’s position on the fuel crisis today during a parliamentary session. The Brahmanbaria-2 lawmaker raised concerns about the long queues at gas stations, questioning the government’s denial of a fuel shortage.
Speaking under Rule 71 on urgent public matters, she highlighted the impact of increased fuel prices on daily routines and the inconvenience faced by drivers waiting in long queues late into the night. Despite the visible queues, Rumeen expressed disappointment at the government’s lack of acknowledgment of the situation.
She pointed out the contradiction between official statements denying a fuel shortage and the reality of people waiting in 3 km long lines to buy fuel. Addressing the speaker, she demanded transparency regarding the country’s fuel reserves, supply chain issues at gas stations, and the government’s response to the crisis.
As a former BNP MP turned independent lawmaker, Rumeen faced opposition from ruling party MPs, who interrupted her speech with gestures and uproar. The speaker intervened, calling for discipline in the parliament.
Opposition Leader Shafiqur Rahman criticized the disrespectful behavior of some ruling party members towards Rumeen, emphasizing the need to uphold the dignity of the parliament and respect all members. He condemned the actions that undermined the decorum of the House, urging all MPs to show restraint and respect during parliamentary debates.
Additionally, Gazipur-4 MP Salahuddin Aiyubi highlighted the severe consequences of the fuel crisis in his constituency, including prolonged power outages affecting essential services and impacting students preparing for exams.
