Legendary Bangladeshi singer Sabina Yasmin has recently re-recorded the renowned song “Ei Mon Tomake Dilam” for the upcoming movie “Domm”, marking 44 years since her original rendition for the 1982 film “Manoshi.”
The track holds a special place in the hearts of fans as one of the most cherished songs in the history of Bangladeshi cinema. Originally penned by acclaimed lyricist Gazi Mazharul Anwar and composed by Anwar Pervez, the recreated version maintains its title while incorporating additional lyrics by Tonmoy Pervez. The musical arrangement for the new rendition is the work of Arafat Mohsin Nidhi.
The recording of the song took place on March 11 at a studio in Dhaka, where Sabina Yasmin collaborated with singer Momin Biswas for the updated version.
During the recording, Sabina Yasmin expressed her admiration for the new composition, citing her decision to participate based on her fondness for the revamped song and her enjoyment of collaborating with younger talents. Following the session, she commended the performances of actors Afran Nisho and Puja Chery, who feature in the film.
Director Redoan Rony described “Domm” as a film evoking deep emotions and portraying the lives of ordinary individuals. He emphasized the significance of the song “Ei Mon Tomake Dilam,” stating that it transcends being merely a musical piece to embody the collective memories and sentiments of a nation.
The filmmakers acquired approval from Gazi Mazharul Anwar’s children, Sarfaraz Anwar Upol and Dithi Anwar, who were present during the recording process. Dithi Anwar expressed a sense of nostalgia upon hearing the song in Sabina Yasmin’s voice, acknowledging the singer as a legendary figure closely associated with her father’s compositions.
Arafat Mohsin Nidhi, the music director, described the experience of working on such a timeless piece as both challenging and thrilling. He expressed his delight at Sabina Yasmin’s endorsement of the new version, considering it a significant achievement.
“Domm” is a production by SVF Alpha-i Entertainment and Chorki, scheduled for release during Eid-ul-Fitr with the tagline “Until the Last Breath.”
