Farzana Sharmin, the sole female Member of Parliament representing the northern region on a BNP ticket, emerged victorious in the Natore-1 (Lalpur-Baghatipara) constituency with a significant mandate of 1,02,726 votes.
Aged 41, Farzana Sharmin is a legal practitioner at the Bangladesh Supreme Court, holding a master’s degree in law from the University of Dhaka. Her lineage includes her late father, BNP stalwart Fazlur Rahman (Potol), a former MP and state minister for social welfare and youth and sports. Her mother, Kamrun Nahar, had a career in education. Farzana is married to businessman H M Barru Sani, and they have two children.
