At least six individuals, including five river police officers, sustained injuries in a shooting incident that occurred during a raid in the Haripur area of Kushtia along the Padma River last night. The attack was confirmed by Pabna Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Anwar Zahid, who indicated that a team from the Laxmikunda River Police Camp in Ishwardi upazila, led by Camp-in-Charge Inspector Shafikul Islam, was conducting a routine patrol in the Haripur vicinity via boat.
Upon reaching the Haripur location, a sudden gunfire by a group of criminals resulted in injuries to five police personnel and the boatman, as reported by the SP. The wounded individuals were rescued from the river by a Pabna police team and subsequently taken to Pabna General Hospital, with one of them sustaining a severe gunshot wound.
The injured parties were identified as Camp-in-Charge Shafikul Islam, along with police members Inamul Haque, Shahinur Haque, Nazmul Hasan, and Manik Miah. However, the boatman’s identity remains unknown at present. Shahinur Haque, who suffered a critical bullet injury to his eye, was transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital this morning for specialized medical care.
The SP highlighted that the situation has been reported to higher authorities, and a collaborative effort involving Pabna Police, Kushtia Police, and River Police is being organized to capture the assailants in the area.
