UGC Member Resigns Amid Mystery Reasons

Date:

Professor Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan, a full-time member of the University Grants Commission (UGC), has tendered his resignation from his position this afternoon. He officially submitted his resignation letter to the education ministry today. When asked for comments, Prof Tanzimuddin informed The Daily Star that he resigned for “institutional” reasons and provided a detailed three-page resignation letter. However, he chose not to disclose the specific contents of the letter.

Prof Tanzimuddin, who holds a professorship in international relations at Dhaka University, was appointed as a UGC member on September 12, 2024, following the events of the July uprising. Although his tenure was originally scheduled for four years, he decided to step down before completing the full term.

Previously, on March 16, Professor SMA Faiz resigned from his position as UGC chairman. Subsequently, Professor Mamun Ahmed, formerly a pro-vice chancellor at Dhaka University, was appointed as the new chairman of the commission.
