Nepal’s temporary government has confirmed that necessary arrangements are proceeding as planned for the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for next week, marking the first such event since the violent uprising of 2025. The government is encouraging voters in the nation of 30 million to participate in the election on March 5 without any apprehension.
Following the anti-corruption demonstrations led by the youth that overthrew the previous administration less than six months ago, Nepal is gearing up for the electoral process. The turmoil during the protests resulted in the loss of at least 77 lives. Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki assured the public on Tuesday that every effort will be made to ensure a transparent, fair, secure, and peaceful election.
Karki emphasized the importance of citizens exercising their voting rights confidently and without any intimidation. The violent incidents in September 2025 marked the most significant upheaval since the conclusion of the ten-year civil war with a peace agreement in 2006.
