The Norwegian Ambassador to Bangladesh, Håkon Arald Gulbrandsen, voiced keen interest in renewable energy, offshore exploration, and green investment opportunities in Bangladesh. During a meeting with Iqbal Hassan Mahmood, the Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources, at the Secretariat, the ambassador emphasized Norway’s commitment to strengthening relations with Bangladesh in trade, investment, and technical cooperation, particularly in offshore renewable energy and green technology.
The ambassador highlighted his government’s eagerness to explore new avenues of collaboration in these sectors and enhance the bilateral ties between the two nations. Minister Mahmood, in turn, requested technical and financial support from the Norwegian government to enhance transparency, increase efficiency in the power sector, and minimize system losses.
Bangladesh actively welcomes greater involvement from Nordic countries in meeting its renewable energy goals and bolstering energy security. The discussions also delved into potential opportunities for technology transfer, specialized training, and financial partnerships in alignment with Bangladesh’s renewable energy roadmap.
The meeting touched upon various facets of bilateral cooperation, including Norway’s active participation in Bangladesh’s transition to clean energy, such as involvement in offshore bidding and investments in renewable energy and solar power sectors. Accompanying the ambassador were Alexander Falck-Bilden, the deputy head of mission at the Norwegian embassy, and Sayeed Muntasir Bayzid, the economic and trade adviser.
Also in attendance were Md Ziaul Haque, the secretary of the Energy Division, and other officials from both the ministry and the Norwegian embassy.
