Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards mob behavior during a recent statement. Addressing the press at the home ministry following discussions with officials on his inaugural day in office, Salahuddin affirmed that citizens’ democratic right to peaceful protest would be respected while illegal actions would be swiftly dealt with.
He declared an end to mob culture, stressing the importance of upholding lawful democratic practices. Salahuddin condemned the obstruction of highways and streets under the guise of pursuing demands, asserting that such activities would no longer be permitted.
The minister highlighted the importance of adhering to proper channels for expressing grievances, such as through organized demonstrations and gatherings. He underscored the need for law enforcement agencies, including the police, to rebuild their credibility and earn back the trust of the public through fair and impartial conduct.
In a commitment to establishing a ministry free of corruption, Salahuddin emphasized the principles of accountability and transparency for all individuals. He issued a stern warning that swift action would be taken against any personnel found engaging in criminal behavior, regardless of their affiliation.
During a cabinet meeting earlier in the day, Salahuddin disclosed the government’s 180-day priority plan. Initial focus areas include addressing commodity price concerns, maintaining supply chain stability, and ensuring uninterrupted operations in the energy sector, particularly gas and electricity distribution.
Salahuddin assured reporters that government officials would fulfill their responsibilities in line with the constitution, national laws, and official protocols. He emphasized that merit, rather than personal or political connections, would guide the evaluation of officials’ performance.
