An airstrike carried out by Israeli forces resulted in the deaths of two Palestinians in the northern Gaza Strip today, as confirmed by health officials in the region. The Israeli military also reported killing a militant who was deemed a threat to its forces in the southern part of the enclave.
According to medics, the airstrike targeted a group of Palestinians in the Tuffah neighborhood of Gaza City, resulting in the fatalities of two individuals and causing injuries to several others. The Israeli military refrained from providing an immediate response to this incident.
Additionally, the Israeli military stated that its forces in the southern Gaza Strip eliminated a militant who posed an imminent threat after crossing into an area still under Israeli occupation within the enclave. This action was described as a breach of the ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States between Israel and Hamas, which commenced last October.
Following the conflict sparked by an attack from the Palestinian militant group Hamas on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, Gaza has been left devastated. Israeli records indicate that 1,200 individuals lost their lives during the hostilities. The Gaza health ministry reports that over 72,000 people, predominantly civilians, have succumbed to Israeli military actions since then. Furthermore, it was highlighted that at least 460 individuals have died due to Israeli attacks since the ceasefire was implemented last October.
Israel has disclosed that four soldiers were killed by militants in Gaza since the ceasefire came into effect. Both parties have accused each other of violating the truce on various occasions.
In January, the Gaza agreement progressed to its second phase, where Israel is anticipated to further withdraw its troops from Gaza, while Hamas is slated to relinquish control of the region’s administration.
