Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has set a new record for the fastest half-century in List A cricket, achieving the feat in just 11 balls while representing India A against Sri Lanka A in the tri-series final. The 15-year-old talent displayed an impressive performance, scoring 94 runs off 29 deliveries, showcasing his exceptional power-hitting skills ahead of his anticipated debut for the Indian team later this month.
By accomplishing this feat, Sooryavanshi surpassed the previous record of a 12-ball fifty held by Sri Lanka’s Kaushalya Weeraratne since 2005. Although the young cricketer fell short of a century, getting caught at mid-off in the ninth over with India A’s total at 132, his explosive innings included 10 boundaries and eight massive sixes.
Sooryavanshi swiftly reached his record-breaking fifty with a combination of boundaries and sixes, dismantling the Sri Lankan bowling attack. After struggling to convert his starts into substantial scores in the earlier matches, the young batsman entered the final with a clear determination to make an impact.
The teenage sensation also came close to matching Jake Fraser-McGurk’s 29-ball List A century record but narrowly missed out by one shot, concluding his remarkable innings just six runs away from a hundred.
