Renowned singer Rafiqul Alam, a veteran in the music industry, has captivated audiences with his mesmerizing voice for many years. His talent has garnered admiration both locally and internationally, significantly contributing to the music scene in Bangladesh.
Despite his long and successful career, Rafiqul Alam remains actively engaged in music. In a recent interview with The Daily Star, the celebrated artist reminisced about his childhood Eids spent in Rajshahi. Recalling his upbringing, he fondly shared memories of his family home in the well-known Sagorpara area of Rajshahi city, where five houses belonged to their extended family.
Growing up with four brothers, two sisters, and numerous cousins, Rafiqul Alam described how the Eid celebrations within their large family were filled with joy and excitement. He recounted their traditional activity of kite-flying, a favorite pastime that brought them together on Eid days. With a smile, he mentioned how they would eagerly prepare kites before the festival and spend the day flying them after the Eid prayers.
New Eid clothes were also an essential part of the festivities, although Rafiqul Alam admitted that his father usually selected the fabric and designs for his outfits. These childhood memories hold a special place in his heart, evoking nostalgia for the simple yet cherished traditions of his youth.
Intriguingly, Rafiqul Alam shared that the practice of giving Eidi (Eid money) was not common in his paternal home but was a tradition at his maternal grandparents’ house. He recalled the joy of receiving Eidi as a child, contrasting it with his current role of giving Eidi to others during Eid.
Reflecting on his past, Rafiqul Alam expressed a mix of emotions, acknowledging the bittersweet feeling that nostalgia often brings. While he cherishes his childhood memories, he also recognizes the weight of revisiting the past too frequently.
This Eid, the talented singer plans to celebrate in Dhaka with his family. Additionally, he is gearing up to release a new song for the festive season, featuring a composition by Foad Nasser Babu and lyrics penned by Moniruzzaman Monir. The song will debut on a YouTube channel and be broadcast on a private television network, showcasing Rafiqul Alam’s ongoing dedication to his musical craft.
Describing the upcoming song as “very beautiful,” Rafiqul Alam expressed his satisfaction with the project, hinting at another musical masterpiece to delight his fans.
