Date:

National Award-winning actor Shams Suman passed away on Tuesday evening while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital city. He was 61 years old at the time of his demise, which occurred around 6:30 pm in Dhaka. The news was confirmed by his younger brother, Shobhon, and Ananya Ruma of Channel i. Suman had been admitted to a hospital in Dhanmondi for medical care.

At the time of his death, Suman was serving as the station chief at Radio Bhumi. He initially rose to fame through television dramas and later diversified his career into stage and cinema. Renowned for his authentic and nuanced acting style, Suman was part of a generation of actors who seamlessly transitioned between different mediums, contributing to the evolution of Bangladesh’s screen industry in the late 1990s and 2000s.

While he had reduced his television appearances in recent times, Suman had an impressive filmography that included notable works such as “Mon Janena Moner Thikana” (2016), “Cox’s Bazar e Kakatuya” (2016), and “Priya Tumi Sukhi Hou” (2014), among others. In 2008, he was honored with the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in “Swapnopuron.”

Suman’s artistic roots trace back to his involvement with the recitation group Swanan at the University of Rajshahi, where he honed his early performance skills. Although he had been less active in the spotlight recently, his contributions to stage, television, and film during a significant era in Bangladeshi acting are enduring.
