“Actor Chanchal Chowdhury Makes Tollywood Singing Debut”

Date:

Chanchal Chowdhury, recognized for his acting prowess, has also made a name for himself as a singer. Often called upon to perform at events, he has showcased his talent by covering popular songs from various artists.

In a significant milestone, Chanchal Chowdhury has lent his voice to a Kolkata film for the first time. His singing will be featured in Bratya Basu’s upcoming movie “Shekor,” marking his debut as a playback singer in the film industry.

Chanchal has recently recorded two songs for the film “Shekor,” as announced by the production house Friends Communication through their social media channels.

Sharing behind-the-scenes snapshots of Chanchal Chowdhury rehearsing with music director Prabuddha Banerjee, the production company revealed on Facebook, ” ‘Shekor’ is a timeless love story by Bratya Basu, currently in the final stages of post-production. Chanchal Chowdhury has contributed multiple songs to this film under the musical direction of Prabuddha Banerjee, marking his Tollywood playback singing debut.”

In an interview with Ajker Patrika, Chanchal mentioned re-recording two popular Baul songs for “Shekor.” These include Bijoy Sarkar’s “Ei Prithibi Jemon Ache Temni Thik Robe” and Gostho Gopal Das’s “O Jibon Re Chhariya Na Jao More.”

Chanchal himself proposed incorporating these songs into the film, emphasizing their alignment with the storyline. He expressed, “During filming, I felt the scenes would be enhanced with songs. Upon discussing with the director, we decided to include both tracks, with the condition that I would perform them myself. Subsequently, following dubbing, I recorded vocals for the songs.”

“Shekor” is adapted from Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay’s short stories “Drabomoyir Kashibas and Dadu,” with Chanchal Chowdhury portraying a pivotal role named Indra, a factory worker whose father grapples with memory loss. Drawing from his personal experience with a similar familial situation, Chanchal found a deep connection to the film’s narrative.

Collaborating with West Bengal actor, politician, and filmmaker Bratya Basu for the first time, Chanchal Chowdhury wrapped up filming for “Shekor” in October last year. The movie features a diverse cast including Loknath Dey, Seema Biswas, Ambarish Bhattacharya, Riddhi Sen, Angana Roy, and Anasuya Majumdar, and is slated for release later this year.
